What do current volunteers have to say?
Every month, we will detail the experiences of a current Tzedek volunteer.
This month, Lara Glass tells us about her time with Tzedek, especially with the Overseas Projects Team:
How did you get involved with Tzedek?
I first heard of Tzedek when I went to one of their fundraising parties. I am now involved in the Overseas Projects Team.
What have you achieved with Tzedek?
By volunteering at Tzedek I have realised that I am interested in working in the developing world and this has lead me to pursue a Masters in Development Studies.
It has given me a small insight into how certain people are living in the developing world, for example women in Northern Ghana are self-sufficient thanks to Tzedek's micro-finance projects, even though they are only earning 40p a day
What have you enjoyed?
I have found it very satisfying to be able to work with an applicant from the beginning of their application, through the decision-making process, until the project has finished. Part of what I find exciting about this role is that I have the opportunity to work with people on the other side of the world improving people's lives without the bureaucracy often found in other organisations.
I have seen through my work on the OPT that Tzedek is making a difference in people's lives by working directly with grassroots organisations that understand local needs and make the most of each pound spent.
More information about the OPT can be found here.
