Faith Fellows Join Tzedek

Tzedek to welcome two new arrivals from the Tony Blair Faith Foundation

Tzedek are delighted to announce that they are to welcome two new arrivals from the Tony Blair Faith Foundation. Charlotte Flowers and Maryam Duale, both of whom are not Jewish, will join Tzedek as part of the Faith Act Fellowship.

Dan Berelowitz, Tzedek Executive Director said:“Developing a deeper understanding of other faiths is critical to the work of alleviating poverty in complex and multifaceted environments. We are delighted to have been chosen to host two Faith Acts Fellows by The Tony Blair Faith Foundation who understand this and know how to help make a difference.”

During their time at Tzedek, the fellows will have involvement in a multitude of Tzedek projects, including developing the sustainable development theatre to include a multi-faith dimension, as well as focussing on maternal and child health education initiatives, and awareness and education of the dangers of malaria.

Charlotte Flowers said: ‘I am thrilled to have been chosen to take part in the Faith Act Fellowship this year, and to be partnered with Tzedek. The campaign to educate and make people aware of the Millennium Development Goals and the need for them is so important, and I can't wait to get started, to help in the fight against poverty.”

Maryam Duale said: ‘I am very excited at the prospect of furthering the Millennium Development Goals and joining the fight to eradicate malaria.  However I am just as thrilled at the opportunity to learn more about the philosophies and the beliefs of others and leave the fellowship truly appreciating their cultures and traditions.’

The fellows will create multi-faith presentation, educational and advocacy materials, possibly in partnership with the Global Poverty Project, for use in faith communities, aimed at an adult audience. In addition, the fellows will also build up contacts with faith communities, schools and youth movements, to deliver the theatre resource.

Tony Blair announced the selection of 30 young people from the UK, US, Canada and India to join his Faith Foundation’s youth leadership programme, the Faiths Act Fellowship. These young people will be tasked with building understanding between different religious communities by mobilising them around the common cause of eradicating deaths from malaria, which this year alone caused more than 750,000 unnecessary deaths.
