Tzedek at Limmud 2009
This year's Limmud brought in record numbers of participants, and Tzedek was there in full force.
Despite the cold, and the possibility of a snow-in, on 27-31 Dec Tzedek staff and volunteers made their way to Warwick University for another session-packed Limmud.
The atmosphere was, as always, hectic and full of life with one Tzedek volunteer noting that she hardly made it to any sessions because of all the people she kept bumping into - turn the corner, and there's someone else you know!
Tzedek led some interesting sessions this year; the most challenging of which focused on ethical trade and the high street. Opinions varied in the room as we watched clips of major high street brands and the conditions of their workers in South Asia. Many felt strongly enough to complete our letter, written with Homeworkers Worldwide, addressed to the CEO of Primark.
Other sessions included a recycled handicrafts session which brought in many new faces, a panel discussion about climate change and flights to Israel, and a late-night talk about volunteering overseas.
This was arguably the most successful Limmud for Tzedek, as our cause becomes more widely recognised, and issues surrounding social responsibility more widely discussed.
Thank you to everyone who was involved in a session or gave their time to help Tzedek at Limmud. We look forward to seeing you at Fest in August!
