Today's British Jews engage in impressive social action, social justice and human rights activities ranging from protection of Roma and Sinti, support for asylum seekers, promoting volunteering and acts of kindness and contributing to the fight against extreme poverty in Africa.
So far, these initiatives tend to avoid links to Israeli partners involved in social action, social justice and human rights initiatives in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories. The divisiveness of the Israel - Palestine conflict and the many other acute social concerns at home and abroad have contributed to this separation. But there are increasing voices among us who argue that there is no bigger social justice issue for Jews than what is happening in Israel.
So what should be done? What are the appropriate roles for Jews and Israelis committed to social justice? Does the global change movement offer new opportunities to make connections?
To discuss these issues, NIF has assembled a panel of leading human rights and social justice activists from the UK and from Israel. They will be sharing their personal thoughts and experiences around this topic in a debate chaired by Pears Foundation director Charles Keidan.
