Tzedek's Green Promise
Yesterday evening, 300 prominent members of the UK Jewish community came together to witness the launch of the UK's Jewish Climate Campaign with Ed Miliband, Secretary of State for Energy & Climate Change.
A screening of The Age of Stupid followed Ed Miliband's speech, in which he declared that 'people [who are] the least responsible pay the biggest price and the earliest price', referring to those living in the developing world.
The Age of Stupid has been described as 'an environmental cry and a plea for change', and it clearly made a huge impact to those sitting in the sold-out auditorium.
Hannah Weisfeld, of the JCC London, also addressed the community, highlighting our need to come together to campaign and act to avoid possible global catastrophe in the future. She also launched the Big Green Jewish website, an interactive site that features numerous resources and ideas for individuals and communities to make a difference to our planet.
Tzedek is dedicated to leading the way in environmental efforts. We are doing this by local sourcing, vegetarian only catering at our events, maintaining zero waste and reducing our carbon emissions by 10% in 2010.
Recently, we have implemented a comprehensive management system and will strive to continually evaluate and improve these policies and practices. To learn more about our actions, click here.
We know that climate change will impact the poor and marginalised communities the greatest, and addressing climate change through our own activities is essential if we are to be successful in our goal of sustainably eradicating poverty.
Tzedek has also produced a new educational resource for us in the lead-up to the Climate talks in Copenhagen in December. To download the resource, click here.
Join Tzedek and the rest of the Jewish community in making a change and sustaining the world we live in.
